Tex Avery
Fredrick Bean "Tex" Avery was born in 1908 in Taylor, Texas.
Avery is famous for producing animated cartoons during The Golden Age of Hollywood animation and Avery's style of directing encouraged animators to stretch the boundaries of the medium to do things in a cartoon that could not be done in the world of live-action film.
Avery was interested in animation from a young age, he began drawing comic strips in school and went on to study at the Chicago Art Institute over the summer. His first animation job was for Walter Lantz around the early thirties where he learned the process of animation and became a storyboard artist.
In 1935 Avery got a job for Warner Bros where he went on to create a Porky pig, Daffy Duck and also created the personality of Bugs bunny. Due to a disagreement with Leon Schlesinger he left Warner Bros in 1941.
Avery then went on to be hired to work in the cartoon division by Fred Quimby producer of MGM in the early 1940’s, where MGM released his first short for them called The Blitz Wolf a parody of Adolf Hitler. Following this Avery went on to make his most famous character Droopy, in Dumb-Hounded in 1943. Following that Avery went on to make some risqué cartoons starting with Red Hot Riding Hood in 1943 he also went on to make screwy the squirrel and of mice and men the inspired duo of George and junior. In 1950 Avery took a year out from MGM returning in 1951 going on to make Deputy Droopy and Cellbound in 1953 and released in 1955. Avery left MGM in 1953 and returned to Walter Lantz although studios and went on to make Crazy Mixed-Up Pup, Shh-h-h-h-h, I'm Cold and The Legend of Rockabye Point in 1954 – 55. His cartoon career ended here where he moved on to make television adverts and was employed by Hanna-Barbera in to wrote jokes for the cartoon Kwicky Koala.
